Here we come, Christmas!!

Hello everyone!  We're down to the last two rehearsals ... and that means:

From now on, everyone should be at every rehearsal (Sunday at 12:30 - 2 pm)
No more scripts on stage!! :)
Next week, the 24th, will be our first of two dress rehearsals, so we need to have people "pop" into the church some time this week and try on their costumes, if they can.  Will you please let me know when you can make it? It should only take about 10 minutes.  I'm available at these times:

Wednesday from 3 pm - 6 pm
Thursday from 3 pm - 5:30 pm, then 6:30 - 7 pm
Friday from 5:30 - 6:30
Saturday morning

If it won't work to come during the week, we CAN do it on Sunday at practice, it's just much easier and less chaotic to do a few at a time.  I'm looking forward to hearing from you!
Thank you so much!
Also a quick reminder --
We ARE doing two shows this year!  Updated times:
Saturday Dec. 7th at 6:30 pm (please be there at 5:30)
Sunday Dec. 8th at 3 pm (please be there at 2pm)

Thanks again!
See you soon

"Around the World" skit and so on .....

Hello everyone, and happy fall!
I hope you are all doing well so far this season.  Club PLAY is going strong again after our summer break.  We've only got one rehearsal left for our "Around the World" skit which will be performed on Saturday, October 5th.  Everyone will need to be at the church at 5 pm.  We will eat dinner there and get ready to do our skit.

Our last rehearsal is this coming Sunday, September 29th, at 12:30 pm.  Thank you everyone for coming together on this to help our Nicaragua Missions Team with their fundraising!  It's going to be great, I can tell!

After the skit, the next day, Sunday, October 6th, we will have a bit of a celebration day and continue our fundraising to support International Day of the Girl, through "Girl Rising".  This is a day to make people aware of the struggle that many girls in other countries face as they want to get an education and improve their lives.  The kids are selling snacks for $1 each, with a goal to raise at least $30 to send to Girl Rising Ministries.

International Day of the Girl is on October 11th, so on Sunday, October 13th we will wrap up our fundraising, and I will be showing a short video made by Girl Rising.  This is for the kids and the parents, and anyone who would like to see it.  I think it's about 15 minutes long (maybe shorter).

Thank you everyone!  Feel free to email me if you have any questions/comments.  :)

The Parade!!

Hello kids and parents!  It's that time of the year again - parade time!  So, if you are able to participate in the parade this year, please LET ME KNOW!  :)  I just need to know if I should go ahead with the plans, if there will be at least 5 kids coming to make it worth it.
We're going to meet on Wednesday the 3rd at 5:30 just for half an hour to get together our decorations and make sure our costumes are organized, then we'll meet on the 4th at 10:00 am at 4th and "O" Ave.
Kids - especially girls - please (on the 4th) wear shorts and a tank top or t-shirt that you can wear under your costume! Thank you!!
I'll be supplying bottled water for the kids, but feel free to bring more from home - it could be a HOT day!!

Everyone is welcome, even younger siblings (as in, Lauren Digweed, Ellicia Evans, and maybe Riley, Eli Barney, etc.)
Here's the costumes I have going for everyone so far:

Lauren - cow
Brooklyn - girl pirate
Joshua - Capt. Jack Sparrow
Alyssa - cowgirl "with crazy puffy hair"
Lauren D - sparkly purple princess
Ethan - the tin man
April - flapper
Lukas  - Newsie (not coming??)

Also, very important, we need someone who is willing to drive a pick up truck for us to ride in.  Please let me know ASAP if you can do this!

And one last thing - I'll be supplying some candy to throw, but it would be a BIG help if everyone who is participating would bring a bag of bulk candy as well.  Thanks again!  Hope to hear from you soon!!

Party Time!!

The play is done - once again, we did it!  Give yourselves a pat on the back, everyone!
As we always do when we finish a show, we will have a party for all of the actors on....
Sunday June 9th, 12:30-2 pm downstairs in the Youth Room
This will be our last meeting for the month, so I hope you all can make it!  We'll have lunch - sandwiches (including gluten free) and snacks and cookies (also including gluten free) and we'll watch our "blooper reel", have some laughs, and play JEOPARDY and win some prizes!

We'll take a break then until after VBS is over.  We can participate in the 4th of July parade again this year!  So, if you're interested in riding in our "float", wearing a costume and throwing candy, please come to the church on Wednesday July 3rd at 4 pm to help get our decorations and costumes ready - then meet at 4th and "O" avenue on the 4th, Thursday, to get ready to ride!  We'll definitely have more candy to throw this year than we did last year! (If anyone would like to bring a bulk bag of candy, that would be fantastic!)

Thank you all for all the time you put into Beauty Is A Beast!  Hope to see you at our celebration!!

One week left..

Hello again!
Just keeping everyone posted - one week left!  Keep up the good work  - keep your lines and cues fresh in your minds, we've got two rehearsals left!

Saturday the 1st at 6 pm
Sunday the 2nd at 12:30 - we're going to make this sort of a matinee so we'll have a bit of an audience - family members are welcome to stay and watch if they want to!

Everyone please memorize what you need to and practice saying your lines with a lot of "flair"!  Character, personality, etc.

And let everyone know that you're in a play, go ahead and invite them to come and see it!
Have fun with it - everything turns out better when the actors are having FUN! : )

(And let's work on scene 6)

Have a great week and I'll see you Saturday!

Two weeks till show time!

Hello everyone - GREAT rehearsal last Sunday!  Thank you all for being there!  We only have THREE rehearsals left, so everyone needs to be there, if they are able....

Saturday the 25th at 6 pm
Sunday the 26th at 12:30 pm
Saturday the 1st at 6 pm

Then the show is Sunday the 2nd at 6 pm (actors please come at 5 pm so we can eat together before we get into costumes)
It's still uncertain if we will be able to do 2 shows that Sunday due to a business meeting that day.... we might make our last "dress rehearsal" Sunday morning open to people who want to see it.

OKAY -- so, this week I will gather up all of the props we need and make sure that we have all of the costumes ready to go.  From now on we'll have everything the way it really will be for the show, so everyone has time to get used to it.

Homework -- MEMORIZE   : )

I'll see you on Saturday, we'll do some costume fittings and go through the play from start to finish. : )

Keep up the great work, and remember to BE your character.....

Tia

Mother's Day Break!

Hello all you actors and families!  Next Sunday is Mother's Day, so everyone enjoy the break from rehearsals!!  We're getting down to the last few weeks before the play, so let's all start memorizing our lines!  Our plan is to be off book after our Sunday May 19th rehearsal.

Here is the rundown of remaining rehearsals:

Saturday 18th at 6 - 7:30 pm
Sunday 19th 12:30 -2
Saturday 25th 6 - 7:30 pm
Sunday 26th 12:30 - 2
Saturday June 1st 6 - 7:30 pm

And the day of the show, June 2nd, our last rehearsal at 12:30 - 2, then everyone needs to be back at the church at 5:30 so we can eat dinner together and get ready for our first performance!

I know that, for the past year, the kids have wanted to do more than one showing of the play, so I'm really trying to make this happen for them.  What I've come up with is:
First show June 2nd at 6 pm (dinner at 6, show starts at 6:30)
Second show June 9th at 3 pm (no meal) so we'll meet back at 1:30 that day, not 12:30, just to go over notes and what not, not an actual rehearsal before the show.

Parents, please let me know as soon as possible if this will work out for you and your family - we need to know if EVERYONE can be available for the second performance that day.
Thank you very much!!

Tia

Stepping wayyyy back in time.....

Hello everyone!  We're all getting a good start on rehearsals for Beauty IS a Beast!  We still have a few small parts to fill, which we NEED to have filled by the end of April.  Adults or kids can play these parts, so if you or anyone you know would like to have a small part, PLEASE let them and/or me know about it!  I'm asking around as well.....

Everyone really needs to come to rehearsals as much as they possibly can - the play is a little over a month away, on June 2nd.  I think this can be our best play yet, but we need everyone to work together on it! :)

So, we're getting ready for COSTUMES as well -  one of the REALLY fun parts!  I want to make sure that everyone's costumes fit them well, so parents - can you let me know (by email or in person)  what your kid(s) size is?

For girls - dress size
For boys - pants size (shirts are pretty easy to get right)

Thank you!  We'll be borrowing as many costumes as possible from June Dixon, but we'll be making a few as well, so we need enough time to do that.

Thank you all!!!
Let's make this play FANTASTIC!

Fun Times!

Well, I think everyone had fun participating in our Improv week last Sunday!  They sure seemed to, and everyone sure has a lot of energy and a good imagination!
We also practiced the Easter Skit, which we will do again on Saturday the 23rd and 30th at 6:30 pm.

Because.....

This Sunday the 17th is AUDITIONS for the big spring play (as I'm sure you all already know)  :)

We need at least 15 parts filled for this play (There are a few small parts for adults in this one!), so I'm hoping that the ad I placed in the Clamdigger will bring in some new faces!

If anyone wants to try out for a part in the spring play but can't be there on Sunday, please let me know!  We don't want you to be left out!

Just another reminder - the play will be performed on June 2nd!  Thank you all!  Have a great rest-of-the-week, and I hope to see you Sunday!

Trixie - Lukas
Plugs - Ethan

And I'll take the part of N.R. Jizer since a lot of the kids are going to be away for spring break.

This Sunday at Club PLAY

Well, we managed to get the entire job of filming the "Commercial" finished in one day!  Great job everyone, and many thanks to my assistants!!

This week at Club PLAY, we'll be watching the video as well as practicing our parts a little more, because......
We've been asked if the kids in "The Queen Loves Coffee" will perform it LIVE on Sunday, March 3rd at the Soup Kitchen Celebration lunch, right after second service.

Please let me know, parents of "Coffee" actors, if your kids are available that day to perform!
Thank you!

All the members of Club PLAY are welcome to attend this Sunday, Feb. 24th, even if they weren't in the coffee commercial.  We'll have (healthy) snacks and watch the commercial video, and then we'll do some fun IMPROV as well as practice a bit with the "Coffee" script.

Thanks again!  Everyone has been doing a great job!  Let's keep gearing up for the Beauty IS a Beast auditions!  (March 17th)

Signing out,
Tia

Easter Skit Sunday!

Hello everyone!  Pastor Eric has asked if the kids in Club PLAY will do a short skit on Easter Sunday, at the beginning of both services.  The skit calls for five (5) parts, and we have about a month to go, so we need to get the parts filled!  If you/your kids are wanting a part in this skit, PLEASE let me know ASAP.  Pastor is counting on us!  : )

Here is the script for you all, ahead of time so you get the idea.  It's about retired famous rabbits (re-named slightly) - Bugs (Plugs) Bunny, N.R. Jizer, "Codger" Rabbit, Trixie, and the Easter Bunny.  The point of the skit is the true meaning of Easter.

Okay, here is the script! Again, please let me know as soon as possible who wants a part, as we will begin practicing on 10th, but since I've included the script here, as soon as I know who wants to be in it, I will assign parts so the kids will be able to start memorizing at home before we all get together.

Thank you for your help!

The Old Rabbit’s Home

N.R. Jizer: Well, just look at that sunset!  Too bad my eyes aren’t what they used to be!  This reminds me of when I used to march right down the highway into the sunset.  I would just keep going and going and going…..
Trixie: Oh, don’t start that again!  It is a nice sunset though.  It makes me think of a bowl of cereal.  Raspberry red, lemon yellow, orangey orange…. Ah, but that cereal is for kids, right, Plugs?
Plugs: Eh?  What’s that, doc?
Trixie:  I said, ISN’T THAT RIGHT?
Plugs:  Bright?  Yeah, it’s bright.  Brightest sunset I’ve seen today!
Codger:  It’s the ONLY sunset you’ve seen today!  I don’t know why I hang around with you old gray hares.  I’m a MOVIE STAR!  Or at least I was until I was framed.  I was FRAMED, I tell you!  FRAMED!!
Trixie and N.R. are exasperated.  Bunny enters.
Bunny: Hello!  Mind if I join you?
N.R. : No problem.  Are you new here?
Bunny:  Yep, just retired.
N.R. : Then welcome to the Old Rabbit’s Home.  I’m N.R. Jizer, this is Trixie, Plugs and Codger.  He used to be a movie star, you know.
Codger:  Until I was framed.  FRAMED, I tell you!
N.R. : What’s your name, stranger?
Bunny:  Just call me Bunny.
Plugs: Funny?  What kind of name is that?
Bunny:  Bunny!  Just call me Bunny!
Plugs:  Eh?  What’s that, doc?
N.R. Nevermind.  Look at that sunset!  I reminds me of the time I marched around the world beating my drum.  I went through hurricanes and mudslides,
under water and over Mount Everest!  Right into the sunset!  Nothing could stop me!  I just kept going and going and going…..
Trixie: And you’re STILL going on and on about all the unbelievable things you’ve done.  Well, I can top that!  I  remember the time all those kids wouldn’t let me have any of their cereal.  Ah, that cereal.  Blueberry blue, grape purple, watermelon pink…..
N.R. Get to the point, will you?
Trixie:  They wouldn’t even let me have a TASTE!  So I stuffed them into a van and drove to the cereal factory and dumped them into the giant vats of food coloring!  THAT ought taught them a lesson, I’ll tell you!
N.R. : That’s quite a story, but I’ll bet Plugs can beat it.  Right, Plugs?
Plugs: Eat what?  Not that cereal, I hope!  It’s for kids!
N.R. Never mind.
Codger:  Well, I say that MY story is the unbelievable one.
Trixie: What is your story?
Codger:  (pauses dramatically)  I was FRAMED!
N.R., Trixie, and Plugs:  WE KNOW!
N.R.: How about you, newcomer?  What’s the most unbelievable thing you’ve ever done?
Bunny: Well….. I guess that would be….. Easter.
Trixie:  Easter?  What about it?
Bunny: Well, I managed to convince everyone that Easter was really about candy, chocolate rabbits and colored eggs.
Plugs:  What?
N.R. No way!
Trixie: Colored eggs?!?
Codger:  That’s the most ridiculous thing I ever heard!
N.R.:  Who would fall for a story that Easter is about candy and colored eggs?
Bunny:  You’d be surprised.
Trixie: And I suppose you got everybody to forget about the REAL meaning of Easter?  About Jesus—that he came to pay for the sins of the whole world?
Codger: And that he died, and was raised back to life again?
N.R.: And he keeps going and going and going……
Codger whacks him to make him stop.
Bunny:  That’s right, I did make them forget.  That’s why I retired.  I want people to remember the real meaning of Easter.
Plugs:  Colored eggs, my foot!  What’s up with that, doc?
N.R. Well, it’s time to get inside for dinner.  Probably mashed carrots AGAIN!
N.R., Codger and Plugs exit.
Trixie:  Say, Bunny, these colored eggs—were they raspberry red?
Bunny: Yep.
Trixie: Lemon yellow?
Bunny: Yep.
Trixie:  Orangey Orange?
Bunny:  You got it.
Trixie:  Ooooohhhhh……
Trixie exits.
Bunny:  Gets ‘em every time!
Bunny exits.
The end.

The Queen Loves Coffee Script

Oh, and just in case you don't have the script at home, the kids don't need to have their lines completely memorized, but they do need to be familiar with them.
Thank you!!!!

The Queen Loves COFFEE  ~ a commercial Written by Lauren Shepard, edited by Tia Austin

Queen:  Joe!  I am thirsty.  Bring me something to drink.

Joe: Yes, your majesty.  Here is some Lemonade.

Queen: (drinks)  Ugh!  This is a foul monster!  Too sour!

Joe:  Forgive me, your majesty.  Have some water.

Queen: (drinks)  Hmm…. Let’s see…. Uh… Lifeless!!

Joe:  Why don’t you try this tea, then?

Queen:  (drinks)  Bleh!! Nasty!  Joe, you’re fired!!

Joe leaves sadly.

Butler:  Oh, come now, your majesty.  Please make up your mind.  Water, Tea, and Lemonade are all favorites, and firing people is NOT the answer.

Queen:  Oh, come on!  Joe didn’t even like his job!

Butler:  Joe…. Hmmmm….I have an idea.  What about COFFEE?

Queen: Coffee? Why not?  (I’ve got lots of other servants to buy me Windex.)

Butler gives the Queen his arm and they walk over to the coffee stand

Employee:  What would you like to drink, your majesty?

Queen:  Ummm…. An Iced Mocha, please.

Employee:  Of course.  Here you are.

Queen: (drinks)  Splendid!  And with the caffeine in this coffee, I’ll have so much energy, I’ll be able to stay up half the night!  Butler, you’ll be working the grave yard shift soon!

Butler: NOOOOOO!!!

Butler runs away and Queen and Employee hold up sign for Holy Grounds Coffee Bar

“Her Majesty’s choice”

Making it Happen!

Hello everyone ~ I'm sorry we couldn't work on The Queen Loves Coffee last Sunday, as I was under the weather.  I will be there this Sunday, so I'm definitely planning on the kids being able to get a lot done on the "commercial" this week!  I'm hoping we'll get it about 80% finished so we can just do little "touch-ups" next Sunday, the 24th.

That said, we are also going to be doing an Easter Skit.  It's short, about 5 minutes long.  There are five parts in the skit, which we will be performing at the beginning of both services on Easter Sunday, with the possibility of doing another performance on a Thursday night at the soup kitchen, between 5:30 and 6:30 pm. If all of the actors are available to do that.  The kids would be "famous rabbits", and the message of this humorous skit is the true meaning of Easter.

So, we'll be having rehearsals for the skit on March 3rd, 10th, and 24th, and performing it on the 31st. (The soup kitchen performance will be either the 21st or the 28th)
We're not having rehearsals on the 17th because of auditions for Beauty is a Beast.

Please let me know if any of your kids would like to participate in the Easter Skit!  Thank you!

The Queen Loves Coffee

Hello folks, sorry this post is extremely late in the week.... !
This Sunday, tomorrow, the 10th, we will start filming Lauren's commercial.  The actors are Lauren, Brooklyn, and Ethan, and myself.  My assistants, Hope, Logan T. and Kaelem won't be able to make it this week.  If there are any other kids (one or two)  who would like to be the director's assistant in this project, which should only take 2 weeks, they are more than welcome to come!

The auditions for Beauty IS a Beast are quickly drawing near as well, so mark your calendars for March 17th at 12:30!  Have a great week!

In Response to Popular Demand......

Well, I must say that I've had many requests and "I wish"-es from many of the boys in Club P.L.A.Y. that we could do something involving an "action scene" - something guy-ish.  So, in response to that, which I feel is long overdue, I have "tweaked" part of the script of Beauty IS a Beast to include some sword fighting action.  I really want to encourage all of the boys that despite the title and message of this upcoming play, there ARE main parts for boys, and it's not going to be completely "girly".
That said, I'll sign off with a reminder that we're having a fun/work day this Sunday, February 3rd from 12:30 - 2:00.  Then, for the kids who aren't involved in "The Queen Loves Coffee"  (acting or assisting) , our next event is on March 17th - the Auditions for Beauty IS a Beast.

Have a great week, and I hope to see you soon!

Club P.L.A.Y. Fun Day!

This coming Sunday, February 3, we're going to get together and have some fun (whether or not the groundhog sees his shadow)!

We're getting ready to start working on our little skit, "The Queen Loves Coffee"  written by Lauren Shepard.  In order to do this, we're going to paint a backdrop for the queen!  This is also going to help us out during VBS Kingdom Rock!  So, let's all get together in some old clothes (we have paint smocks at the church) and be artistic!  We're also going to play a game and put together some "blessing bags"!
There will be snacks as well!  Hope to see all of your smiling faces!!

Making New Friends....??

Happy Monday everyone!  We had a little get-together for Club P.L.A.Y. yesterday to let everyone know the schedule and plans we have for the year.  We're going to take some longer breaks this year!
: )

We played some games and had some snacks, and the kids were able to see a little "commercial presentation" that I put together for the Club.  There is a link to it on our website, www.clubplayanacortes.webstarts.com

So you can take a look at it if you'd like to! I think it's time to let a few of the other churches out there know about Club P.L.A.Y.  and see if any other kids would like to join the group!  The auditions for the Spring Play (Beauty is a Beast) are March 17th, so my goal is to contact some churches and let them know about it  (there are 15 parts to fill in this play!)

One side theme I'd like to focus on for the club this year is friendships, so this is a good way to do that, inviting other kids to join.

We're not meeting on January 27th since there is a VBS meeting, but we're going to start working on the Coffee Bar commercial on February 3rd (Sunday) at 12:30, for everyone who is involved in acting or assisting with that project.

Thank you!  If anyone has any questions or anything seems a bit muddled, please feel free to let me know!

New Year Re-Grouping

Okay, Kids!  : )
Let's all get together this Sunday, the 20th of January!  Club P.L.A.Y. is starting its second year, and we have some fun skits and plays ahead of us.  Just so we're "all on the same page", we're going to have a sort of party this Sunday at 12:30.  There will be snacks and I'll have New Year packets for everyone to take home.  The gathering will be after second service, downstairs in the youth room at the end of the hallway. I hope to see you there!

Acting Contest???

Hello out there!  I hope you're all feeling good about 2013 so far!

I've made plans for an "acting contest" for the kids, scheduled to start January 27th, but I'm not sure if any of the kids are interested.  And that's okay!  I would like to just get some definite yesses or no's to see if we should just skip this event and do something else... maybe an Easter skit?

So, if you could please, give me a little bit of feedback, that would be "stupendous"!
Thank you!!

Happy New Year!!

So, now it's 2013!  Something new to get used to!  I truly hope that all of you enjoyed the holidays!
I really just need to start my first post for the year by saying a big

THANK YOU!!!!

To everyone who participated in the plays last year, helped with sets or costumes, handing out programs, making food, setting up or cleaning up, helping kids learn lines, encouraging, and coming to see the shows!  You've made my first year as acting director a memorable one!

That all said, we're going to take things a bit slower in Club P.L.A.Y. this year (I know the kids seem to have limitless energy, but I know I don't!)  : )
So, here is a rundown of the schedule for the Club, with upcoming events.

January 6 - 20  -- "The Queen Loves Coffee"  commercial written by Lauren Shepard
For this, I only need a few kids.  The ones who had been "cast" by Lauren early in December are:
    Lauren S. as the Queen
   Joshua D. as the butler
    Alyssa D. as "Joe"
and myself as the coffee bar worker

I could use a few "stage hands" if kids want to help.  We're going to be filming this, not acting it out on stage.

The next big event will be our "Acting Competition" January 27th through March 3rd.
It will work sort of like American Idol, but with no eliminations.  This should be fun!! We'll have judges and prizes, etc.  I'm encouraging all the kids to come and "act up"!!

Then, on March 17th we'll have auditions for our Spring play, "Beauty is a Beast".  If you know that you can't be there on that Sunday, but your kids want to be in the play, please let me know so they can audition ahead of time.  :)

I will be providing everyone involved with a detailed calendar of Club PLAY events for the whole year, in their boxes at church or by email.  We are also taking the summer off this year, after VBS!!

Whew-  that's it for now!  Thanks again, and I look forward to seeing you all again!  Let's make this year at Club PLAY even better than last year!!   : )

Miss Tia (Director)
