First Rehearsals!

Well, we had our first rehearsals today! Things went great. This is going to be a fun play, where we can be silly and quirky, and anything goes! (for the most part)  I'm not divulging secrets to the general public, so - actors and actors families - please don't tell anyone any specific details about the play!  :)
We want them to come and see it and be surprised.  Thank you all for being there!  Have a great week and see you next week!

Many hats.....

Been thinking about the whole idea of acting, being an actor.  It is a fun thing, for those who enjoy it and are good at it.  I wonder what makes it so much fun?  Is it wearing the costumes, getting the chance to image you're someone other than yourself, spend time with a group of peers and bond with them over a shared experience?  Even walking around the house with your lines and saying them over and over again, imagining the best way to say them on stage to make it sound the best way possible.  There is a certain TV show that I've been watching, which has run for 9 seasons.  I've been thinking... the people on that show have had to be the same characters for 9 years!  I wonder what it's like, portraying the same character for 9 years?  If you're in a movie, or a series of movies, that will only last 1 year, or up to 3 or 4 years, then you move on an get to be someone else, and you can play different kinds of characters, in different situations, with different backgrounds, different time periods.  You'd have to really enjoy being a certain character to play them for 9 years running!

Ahhh... the bright, pure light reflecting off the snow, coming in through the windows, and the sweet smell of apple and banana slices drying in the oven!  Delicious.....
Happy snowy Tuesday everyone!! I hope you're all looking forward to diving in to this next play as I am!  If you haven't yet gotten a copy of the script, will you let me know?  On Sunday, January 22nd we're going to start rehearsals with a read-through.  Hope to see you all there!  Have fun in the snow this week!  (But stay healthy and safe!)

Auditions Day!!

Today is the day to audition for a part in Operation: Messiah!  Auditions begin at 12:30 in the Great Room.  Tryouts from the script pages will take about 30 minutes or so, and then we'll have personal auditions - people can perform something of their own choosing. (this is completely optional!)  I tried to let everyone know about this ahead of time, but if they didn't have the chance to memorize something, they can have is printed out and do it with the "script" page... it can be from a play, a story, a movie, or anything.  I just want to let them express their own interests.  Hope to see you all there!

Butterflies....

I have completed the writing stage, the script is done.  That never makes me nervous, even in moments of writer's block.  But the next step is holding auditions.  I always get butterflies when that moment comes... I think it's because I want to make sure that I'm doing things right.  To give everyone an opportunity to show their best acting.  I have a responsibility to the actors, as much as they do to me.  It's their responsibility to memorize their lines and come to rehearsals, but it's my responsibility to help them look their best and play off of each other, to become one big unit while at the same time I focus on what every character on stage is doing or thinking or feeling during a given scene.  The butterflies go away after the second week of rehearsals usually.  I think it's because I'm more comfortable around the actors.  The butterflies will be back on opening night!!
Here you are, Beth Gone-evil.... you don't look evil at all! :)

Favorite characters

I thought I'd add a little more to this.. who is one of your favorite characters from a play, book or movie?  One of my favorites is Puck from a Midsummer Night's Dream.  He's a mischevious troublemaker who works for Oberon, king of the fairies.  I think I just like a lot of the things that he says in the play.  "What hempen homespuns have we swaggering here so near the cradle of the fairy queen?"  and "Else the Puck a liar call.  And so good night unto you all.  Give me your hands if we be friends, and Robin shall restore amends."

Welcome

Hello everyone!  Welcome to my first blog.  Thank you Jayna for giving me the idea!  Now we can all keep in touch about the upcoming play, Operation: Messiah.  Auditions are on Sunday!  See you then.
